When Mark Masi retired and moved to Augusta to be closer to family, he knew he wanted to spend his time doing something meaningful. About a year ago, he decided to see what Golden Harvest Food Bank was all about. He has been showing up ever since. We are so grateful for Mark and proud to recognize him as our Volunteer of the Year.

Mark volunteers at The Master’s Table Community Kitchen and at our Augusta campus, serving several times a week as his schedule allows. Some days, he helps provide meals to neighbors in need of a hot, comforting meal. Other days, he packs weekend backpacks for children, prepares senior food boxes, or helps sort fresh produce and meat for families. Wherever there is a need, Mark is willing to step in and help. For him, the impact is personal.

“You really get a lot back when you can see the results of your volunteering in real time,” he shared. “It is legitimately giving back to the community.” He also values the people beside him, describing the fellowship among volunteers and staff as something special. The relationships built and the shared sense of purpose keep him coming back week after week.

Even a couple of hours, he says, can make a difference. “If you’re thinking about volunteering, it is well worth your time and your energy. You’ll have a great feeling every time you finish helping out the community.”

Because of Mark’s consistency and care, children head into the weekend with food in their backpacks, seniors have groceries on their shelves, and families across our community have the meals they need.
