Building A Fresher Future

The Need

We know that 1 in 9 in our area struggle with hunger, and we have committed to be there for them. The challenge we have been facing is that the facilities at our Augusta campus can’t keep up. Our aging Augusta warehouse cannot facilitate distributions on a growing scale, support a robust volunteer program, and accommodate Food Bank staff.

Even more pressing is the need to rebuild our sorting and packing center, the Faith Food Factory. This 60 year-old facility lacks the functionality needed in a food-grade warehouse, including adequate cold storage needed for fresh fruits and vegetables and a dedicated space for volunteers to work.

Phase 1: Augusta Warehouse and new Volunteer Center

Phase 2: New Produce Rescue Center

The Project

We’re building a fresher future at Golden Harvest Food Bank.

The expanded and renovated facilities will support our vision of a hunger-free community. With designated volunteer packing and sorting space, improved access for trucks, and increased office and conference space, the renovations meet key needs.

The Faith Food Factory will be transformed into a 30,000 square foot Produce Rescue Center. The new facility will have two additional coolers and one additional freezer, more than tripling the amount of cold storage available.

It will also feature a designated volunteer produce sorting and packing warehouse that will accommodate up to 60 volunteers a day, doubling Golden Harvest’s current volunteer capacity. An additional 7,500 square feet of office space will house the Golden Harvest team.

The updates to our Augusta warehouse and rebuilding our volunteer and food sorting facility will allow us to distribute 250% more produce in our community.

Share Our Vision

Ending hunger in our area is a goal that no one organization can reach alone. The Food Bank is asking our corporate partners, community leaders, longtime allies, and new friends to raise $2 million in philanthropic donations to fuel this vision.

With these funds, the partners who pick up daily from our warehouses will have more food and more efficient service. The more than 1,000 volunteers a month we need to help sort and pack food will have a place to work. Our team members will have the office space they need to best serve our area. And our hungry neighbors will have enough nutritious food and gain access to the fresh produce they need for a healthy lifestyle.

From Amy’s Desk: Roadmap to a Hunger-Free Tomorrow

When I reflect on the thousands who have shaped Golden Harvest into what is today, I am humbled and grateful. What started 40 years ago as a small operation distributing 167,000 meals now provides more than 11 million meals a year…
