Our 30th anniversary It’s Spooky to Be Hungry® campaign had a big goal. We asked our community to link arms with us to raise $250,000, which equals 750,000 meals. Not only did you meet the goal, you exceeded it! Together, we raised over 1 million meals between monetary and food donations. We are humbled and grateful for all of the individuals, teams, corporations, neighborhoods, schools, and our community as a whole for helping us break yet another Spooky record.

This year’s Spooky campaign kicked off during a time when our neighbors were already having to make difficult decisions when it came to providing enough food for their families. Asking you to donate to put food on the plates of others while already having to deal with your own personal challenges was not an easy ask. But you helped us raise more than what we set out to do, and we couldn’t be more proud of the work we were able to accomplish together.

What began in 1992 as a small neighbors-helping-neighbors food drive has grown into a movement across the CSRA that raises hundreds of thousands of meals that help feed children, seniors, and families every year. “To see that something I really did put so much time and energy into is continuing in this way is really heartening,” said Evelyn Browne, founder of It’s Spooky to Be Hungry®. After 21 years of service, Evelyn officially passed the Spooky torch to Golden Harvest Food Bank in 2013.

Thank you, Evelyn, for paving the way, and a huge thank-you to you, our friends, for 30 years of helping us scare away hunger!
