Stoney smiles as he receives boxes of nutritious food at a Mobile Market food distribution in front of the Augusta warehouse. This was his first visit to the Food Bank after a long-term illness left him unable to work.

When Stoney pulled up to a Golden Harvest Food Bank Mobile Market food distribution a few months ago, his big smile warmed hearts as he chatted with volunteers.

As our team loaded food into the trunk of his car, Stoney shared that this was his first time receiving food assistance.

Stoney lives with his wife in the area, and is a longtime resident of the community. He had been working at his job for over 35 years when he fell ill with COVID-19 in January of 2020.

He’s been dealing with lasting symptoms ever since. After six months of staying home, unable to work, his employer had to let him go.

Thanks to the loyal support of friends like you, Stoney received a box of shelf-stable pantry staples plus fresh produce, meat and milk.

“I’m still going to the doctor to get my breathing together. This food will help us out a whole lot,” he said.

Your generosity helps Golden Harvest continue to provide more Mobile Market food distributions than ever before, including events held regularly at our warehouse facilities in Aiken and Augusta. We’re also able to provide events that are larger than ever before with your help, feeding up to 600 families at a time.

Stoney was especially happy to receive the produce and meat. Though he likes to cook from time to time, his wife does most of the cooking. The couple especially enjoys chicken, roasts, and a good macaroni and cheese.

He shared that the challenges of the last year have left him with a sense of resiliency and the knowledge that so many of our neighbors have faced and overcome the same challenges.

“Everybody comes upon hard times. And when that time gets to you, you have just got to go out there and get food where you can get it from,” Stoney said.

Thank you for helping neighbors like Stoney to overcome challenges and get the nutritious food they need.
