Claire Babineaux-Fontenot joins GHFB President & CEO Amy Breitmann, Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson, and board members for groundbreaking ceremony.

In February, we were honored to welcome Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot on a momentous day for our Food Bank.

We kicked off her visit with a groundbreaking ceremony for our new Produce Rescue Center. This new facility will replace the current Faith Food Factory across the street from the main Augusta warehouse.

The Produce Rescue Center will allow us to drastically increase the amount of fresh produce, meat, and dairy items we can distribute to our neighbors across our 11,000 square mile service area. It will also house our Georgia Community Impact team, who work directly with our more than 350 partners agencies and programs to distribute food to families facing food insecurity.

“What this does is it makes more room for more food, which means more food will get to more people who need it more inside of the community,” said Claire.  Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson also joined our team, agency partners, and board members to commemorate the special occasion.

After a hardhat tour of our nearly completed Volunteer Welcome Center, Claire headed down to The Master’s Table to serve a hot meal and fellowship with our guests at the soup kitchen. She served alongside our staff and other volunteers before heading to an all-staff lunch to meet the rest of the Golden Harvest Food Bank team.

The 6th annual Benefactor’s Dinner, which raises money for The Master’s Table, took place that evening with Claire as a special guest speaker. Donors came together to raise $225,350, which will cover roughly 2/3rds of the operations costs for the soup kitchen.

A special thank you to Claire Babineaux-Fontenot and everyone that joined us on this special day. Without your support, we couldn’t carry out our mission of building a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow.
