Special Projects Manager Glenn Tomlinson and CEO Amy Breitmann look over building plans. The Augusta warehouse will feature more workspaces and a new volunteer center.

Things are changing at Golden Harvest Food Bank’s Augusta warehouse, and we are excited to share the news! Construction crews, stacks of hardware items, and a wired fence have become the visual norm at the location on Commerce Drive, which could only mean one thing: our Phase 1 Renovation Project is well underway.

When we identified the 8.8 million meal gap across our service area, we knew what had to be done in order to eliminate hunger by 2030: build more capacity and replace aging buildings. We would need to expand our ability to procure, pack, and distribute more food to those we are charged to serve. Our staff and construction team have been fully committed to this project, and we are so thankful for what has been accomplished so far.

The improvements coming to our building will create an improved experience for those who join us in service. Our new volunteer sorting area will be central to our main warehouse, and a volunteer break room will support these important members of our team.

A catwalk located above our volunteer experience area will allow tours of the facility to get a bird’s eye view of the work being done, as well as a peek into our warehouse, where millions of meals are processed and distributed each month.

New conference rooms, workspaces, and offices will house our growing team and provide vital space to more than 60 Golden Harvest employees.

These improvements are exciting and much needed, and the bottom line is that they will allow us to better support our partner agencies and neighbors who rely on us. In the next few weeks, work will also begin on our Phase 2 Project: changing our Faith Food Factory into a Produce Rescue Center. Thank you for standing with us as we continue our mission of transforming lives by feeding our neighbors today and building a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow.
