Partnering To Provide 225,000 Meals

Isaac receives prepackaged meals made with fresh ingredients for himself and his three grandchildren. Isaac comes downstairs from his apartment in Richmond Summit off Broad Street for two reasons: Three of his grandkids are about to pull up, and he wants to get them something to eat. Outside the apartment complex are volunteers distributing individual prepackaged meals from World Central Kitchen, a global hunger relief organization founded by Chef José Andrés. Isaac collects his meals and then passes them through the window of a car to three smiling faces. “My grandkids are here a lot, and that’s [...]

Augusta National Donates Food From Postponed Masters Tournament

Today at The Master’s Table Soup Kitchen, lunch is simple: a ham sandwich with lettuce and tomato, an apple and some potato chips. It’s nutritious and filling, simple but satisfying – but it has a twist our guests will love: a bag of chips with a very familiar logo on the front. These bags of chips were originally destined to be eaten at this year’s Masters Tournament in April. Instead, thanks to the Augusta National Golf Club, they help round out a meal – perhaps the only one they’ll eat today – for our 300 [...]

From Homeless to Helping Hand at The Master’s Table

Volunteer Antonio Jones serves the noontime meal at The Master’s Table Soup Kitchen. His experience of being homeless led him to want to help others who are struggling with hunger and homelessness. Three years ago, Antonio Jones was in a tough spot in Charleston, S.C. “All I had was a truck – a Chevy S10 - and I was sleeping at the park, going to the nearest gas station, washing up and going to work the next day,” Jones says. Back then he struggled; he didn’t know food banks like Golden Harvest or soup kitchens like The [...]
