The new mural in the courtyard at The Master’s Table Community Kitchen is more than a beautiful piece of art. It is a message of dignity, hope, and welcome for every neighbor who enters the space.
Created by local artists Mary Harris and Cecilie Broome, the mural brings together scripture, CSRA imagery, and pieces of The Master’s Table story. From the Savannah River and Augusta skyline to the stained-glass window and dove inside the dining room, each detail was chosen with care. The bright colors and meaningful images help make the courtyard feel warm and uplifting for neighbors waiting for a meal.
Divided into four sections, the mural tells a story of hope, growth, provision, and service. The river flows throughout the artwork as a reminder of connection and the call to care for one another, while the sun represents new beginnings and the promise that God’s mercies are new every morning. Other images point to planting seeds, receiving the fruits of the Spirit, sharing the harvest, and gathering at the Lord’s table.
Six plaques accompany the mural with messages of dignity, kindness, provision, and belonging, all centered on one message: “You are seen. You are loved. You are welcomed here.”
We are especially grateful for the life and work of Mary Harris, who passed away not long after the mural was completed. Mary was a retired art educator, an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, and a gifted artist who used her talents to bring beauty and meaning to the lives of others. Through this mural, her kindness, creativity, and faith will continue to greet our neighbors each day.
We hope every neighbor who sees it feels the same care and compassion that Mary and Cecilie poured into creating it, and that Mary’s legacy continues to live on through the beauty they created together.
