“I love trains,” said Cyrus, as a long line of freight cars made their way down the tracks by The Master’s Table Soup Kitchen. “They’re like me — tough and durable.”
It was a busy day at the Soup Kitchen. Arriving on bike, on foot, and from the bus stop, hungry neighbors waited outside for the courtyard to open at 11 a.m. A team of volunteers prepared and served trays of Chef Grant’s stir-fried beef and vegetables over rice, served with peaches, bread, a cookie, and an ice-cold water or juice.
About two years ago, local artist Cyrus visited The Master’s Table Soup Kitchen for the first time. He had moved to Augusta after living in central Arizona, where he painted beautiful desert landscapes. He heard about the Soup Kitchen’s daily hot meals from his minister.
Since then, he has enjoyed not only the nutritious meals that many neighbors in downtown Augusta receive every day, but also talking with the supportive Soup Kitchen staff.
“The staff here is outstanding,” he said. “They cook good meals every single day.”
Through weekends, through holidays, through bad weather and busy days, our talented staff and dedicated volunteers serve a healthy lunch for the community 365 days a year.
And on Easter Sunday, we began serving our guests inside the dining room for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are so grateful for our volunteers and the support from the community that have made it possible.
Our hungry neighbors know that every meal matters. Thank you for helping Soup Kitchen guests like Cyrus receive a delicious, wholesome meal every day.
