When Hurricane Helene struck the CSRA, First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church became a shining light in the community. Despite the hurricane’s devastation—damaged homes, spoiled food, and neighborhoods left in darkness—church leaders and volunteers stepped up with unwavering spirit and compassion. They brought not just essentials but also a powerful reminder of the strength of faith and community.

Just before the storm hit, a much needed delivery truck arrived—a timely blessing that enabled the church to reach those in greatest need. “We had no idea how perfect the timing would be,” Pastor Roscoe Perry said. With hearts full of compassion, dedicated volunteers James and Theresa Briscoe packed the truck with supplies and navigated debris-strewn roads, determined to reach every family in need. “It wasn’t just about the food,” Theresa shared. “It was about letting people know they weren’t alone.” they can receive the assistance they require with dignity.

First Mt. Carmel went beyond providing necessities; they offered hope and joy. Knowing children were spending long days outside without power, James also included toys in the deliveries, bringing moments of light and laughter to families facing difficult days.

For Pastor Perry, the mission was rooted in a powerful faith. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble,” he reflected. With support from Golden Harvest, the church’s efforts became a testament to the resilience of community and the impact of kindness in times of need.

We are honored by the extraordinary work of First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and all our partner agencies. Their dedication to serving families in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene has been nothing short of inspiring. Together, we are building stronger, more resilient communities—because even after the storm, hope always shines through.
