After stepping up as a hub for emergency relief during both Hurricane Debby and Hurricane Helene, the Produce Rescue Center has officially transitioned to its primary purpose: moving more fresh, nutritious produce to neighbors across our 24-county service area.

Built with efficiency and community impact in mind, the Center now plays a vital role in our daily operations, storing and distributing truckloads of fruits and vegetables with care and speed. That means more produce on plates, fewer nutrients lost to waste, and stronger support for our 325+ partner agencies working on the frontlines of hunger relief.

And this work couldn’t come at a more important time. Families facing food insecurity are more likely to experience diet-related health issues like high blood pressure and diabetes. Access to fresh produce is a critical step toward better health. That’s why every item that leaves our shelves, whether it’s shelf-stable or farm-fresh, is chosen with care using the HER nutrition guidelines, a stoplight food selection guide to promote balance and wellness.

This new facility is also opening up fresh opportunities for volunteers to make a hands-on impact. With upgraded workstations and space to host larger groups, the Produce Rescue Center is already buzzing with energy. From peach sorting to produce boxing, every shift brings people together to serve their community.

Over the coming months, volunteers will also help pack thousands of Summer Harvest food boxes here at the Center. These boxes will ensure kids and families have access to healthy, nourishing food all summer long when school meals are out of reach.

The Produce Rescue Center is more than a building. It is a turning point. A place where fresh food and fresh hope come together, powered by people like you.
