Host A Food & Funds Drive

Food & funds drives are a great way to help our neighbors in need. Whether you’d like to run a traditional food & funds drive or go totally virtual, you’re putting meals on the tables of those who need it most, and filling hearts with hope along the way.

Start A Virtual Drive

To maximize your efforts, consider creating a virtual food drive to help feed the hungry!

Virtual food drives are online drives that allow your team to “shop” online for food donations. It’s a great tool for those that would prefer to financially support the food bank, and you can use it alongside your traditional food drive as well.

Start A Traditional Drive

Collect food and funds with your workplace, church, school or other organization. Our tools & tips make it easy and rewarding for your group.

Step 1: Choose sturdy containers to collect food in. Consider collecting funds as well to maximize your impact!

Step 2: Get the word out about your drive (our food drive kit below has resources to help).

Step 3: Collect the food. Wondering what foods we need most? Check out out our Most Wanted Items list.

Step 4: Drop food donations off at our Augusta or Aiken warehouse.

Food Drive Tips

  • Establish a contact person to manage communications, logistics, goals.

  • Define a timeline for your food drive – we recommend two to four weeks.

  • Label sturdy containers for food collection (plastic bins, heavy cardboard boxes, etc.) and place them at convenient drop-off points.

  • Promote your food drive! Be sure to let your community know when and where to donate.

The first ingredient of a successful food drive is containers for collecting the food.

Large plastic storage bins work best as they are sturdy enough to hold heavy food items. If you decide to use a cardboard box, please tape the bottom securely to prevent box breakage. Use a container that can easily fit in the backseat or trunk of your vehicle for easy delivery to the food bank.

Golden Harvest has a limited number of food collection barrels available for use. These collection barrels are 3 feet tall, 16 inches wide, and can hold approximately 80-100 pounds of food. Please note that you will need an SUV or truck to pick these up and transport them back to the food bank.

If you would like to use our barrels, they can be picked up at one of our warehouse locations Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM – 12 PM or 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (we are closed for lunch from 12 – 1 PM).

We are grateful for food donations of any quantity. However, transportation costs limit our ability to pick up food donations.

Due to limited resources, we can only coordinate pick-ups for locations that have a minimum of five Golden Harvest barrels filled with food donations, or 400 lbs of food. Your assistance in transporting food donations to the Food Bank is greatly appreciated, and helps us reduce operating costs so that we can more efficiently serve children, families and seniors in need.

You do not need an appointment to drop off your food donation. Just swing by one of our warehouse locations from 8:00 AM – 12 PM or 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. We are closed for lunch from 12 – 1 PM.

Our team can help you unload and weigh the items, and will provide you with a receipt for the donation if desired. Please also provide our staff with the organization and contact information for your drive and/or food donation.
