This summer, Golden Harvest Food Bank expanded Summer Harvest into South Carolina for the first time, helping more families access food while children are out of school. In Aiken County, that expansion was made possible through partners like Serenity Charity Club, led by Pamela Perry.
Serenity Charity Club, a local food pantry that distributes monthly and participates in mobile produce distributions, expanded its work this summer by hosting a Summer Harvest distribution that provided food for 300 families.
Pamela joined Golden Harvest’s partner network in January after seeing the need in the area. Since then, Serenity Charity Club has hosted monthly distributions at Harrison-Caver Park, serving anywhere from 100 to 150 families at a time. A recent mobile produce distribution served more than 200 families. 
“The need in this area is high,” Pamela shared. “We have quite a few families, low-income families, senior citizens, that actually need this food.” That need is especially clear during summer, when children are home from school and families are stretching already tight grocery budgets. Serenity Charity Club also operates a summer feeding program for children, which served about 50 children a day at the beginning of June. Since then, daily participation has more than doubled to 108 children.
Pamela has served her community for about eight years through food distributions, school supply giveaways, and holiday meals. She credits the Aiken County Recreation Department with helping make this work possible. For Pamela, partnering with Golden Harvest means being able to offer more to the neighbors who come through the line. Her commitment reflects what makes our Hunger Relief Network so special.
