Senior Food Box
Golden Harvest provides a monthly 18-20 pound box of groceries to over 1,000 seniors who struggle with hunger.
Adequate nutrition is essential for seniors to support a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, seniors living on a small income must often choose between purchasing enough to eat or paying for medication, housing or utilities. You can provide a monthly box of nutritious groceries to a local senior in need for just $15/month.
More about this program
Many seniors living in poverty find themselves starting into an empty cupboard at the end of each month after their meager retirement check has been exhausted. Golden Harvest meets the needs of these seniors through our Senior Food Box Program, which provides seniors in need with a box of food to help them through the end of each month. Each box contains easily-prepared foods that are specially selected to support the unique health needs of the aging. Boxes are distributed by volunteers at central sites easily accessed by the seniors we serve, or delivered directly to their homes.
The Seniors We Serve
Golden Harvest works with local non-profit and government agencies including Area Councils on Aging, housing authorities, senior homes and shelters, and churches to identify seniors facing hunger and enroll them in the Senior Food Box program. Some of these seniors are living on incomes as small as $8,500/year, and many struggle with disability or chronic medical problems. Due to a network of product donors and wonderful volunteers, Golden Harvest is able to get balanced, nutritious boxes of food right into the hands of the seniors who need it most.
