Strands of twinkle lights illuminated the rafters of Golden Harvest’s Augusta Warehouse as jazz music filled the air at this year’s Taste of the Harvest-Augusta event on April 30th. The stark industrial interior was brightened with colorful banners to welcome almost 300 guests, who arrived to sample delicious culinary offerings from 18 area restaurants, caterers and specialty food shops.
Taste of the Harvest has raised funds to benefit the hungry for 24 years. This year, for the first time, Golden Harvest’s friends and supporters were invited to dine in our warehouse for a behind-the-scenes look at what we do. Guests could explore education and volunteer stations while filling their plates with the best local food for the full Golden Harvest experience.
At the heart of this experience was the mobilization of our community, especially local restaurants, to help those in need to fill their plates as well. Executive Chef Timothy King of Camellia Walk Assisted Living & Memory Care said that for him, the event was a chance to “make love edible” by donating his time and culinary talent to promote “a deserving quality of life” for those in need.
